Guenther Gunner H. Froebel, Jr. died on August 9, 2007.

He was born in Houston, TX on December 21st 1922, the eldest of four children of Guenther H. and Marie Burns Froebel. Raised in Swarthmore, PA, he graduated from Lehigh University in 1948, interrupted by four years of World War II service as a Captain and Bomb Disposal Officer in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. While completing his degree at Lehigh, as a reserve officer he served on the Ordnance Board at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and was an ROTC instructor at Lehigh. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War as a Contracting Officer for R&D, tanks, artillery and ammunition at the Philadelphia Ordnance District.

He was employed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during college summer vacations, and after graduation at the Budd Company and Piasecki Helicopter Company now the Boeing Vertol Division in Philadelphia. The major portion of his business career was with the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI and Australia, and International Telephone & Telegraph in New York and Brussels, where he was Vice President and Director of Operations for ITT Europe. In 1980, with his son Steven, he founded Westico, a software company, and served as President until his retirement in 1985.

In 1946 he married Virginia Anne Yerkes, whom he met in the fourth grade. Their children are Steven Yerkes Froebel of Woodbridge, CT, Joanne Burns Froebel of Savannah, GA and Sara G. Sherter of Southbury, CT. Their grandchildren are Jesse Thomas Froebel and Alex Anne Sherter.

Outside of his family, his passions were sailboat racing and cruising, and film and video production, with further interest in computers, astronomy and family genealogy. He was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity at Lehigh and the Royal Geelong Yacht Club in Australia, and a governor of Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT. A resident and member of The Landings Club on Skidaway Island in Savannah for the past 20 years, he also volunteered at the Bethesda School for Boys teaching video production at its technical school.

A private family memorial was held.
